This has been your coping mechanism and it would be dangerous to demand you live without any coping mechanisms, but I will help you develop new, healthier, and more effective ones.
At Get Centered Counseling, I provide individual and/or family counseling. Since eating disorders are incredibly serious and can be physically and emotionally dangerous, it is important to be seeing a dietitian, as well as being monitored by a doctor. I will work closely with your other treatment providers to ensure the most comprehensive care possible and we will form your treatment team. A treatment team is necessary so that the physical, psychological, and nutritional aspects of an eating disorder can all be assessed and treated appropriately.
Members of your treatment team should all specialize in eating disorders. Together, you and your treatment team will work to get your life back. If you do not already have a dietitian or a doctor, don't worry! Call me and set up an appointment, and I will try to help you find someone with whom you feel comfortable.

Trauma can happen in many different ways and experiencing distress after a traumatic event is normal, but when should you seek help? A good rule of thumb is to get support if the distressing symptoms are still occurring after 30 days. Are you having trouble sleeping, experiencing flashbacks, easily startled, feeling like danger is all around you? These are a few of the many symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.
